Blue Partnerships:
The Blue Partnerships pillar strengthens institutional, technical, social, and ecological connectivity across the Western Indian Ocean. It recognises that ocean resilience cannot be achieved through fragmented efforts and instead promotes collaboration between governments, civil society, research institutions, private sector actors, development partners, and local communities. Since its launch, the Great Blue Wall has created a shared regional framework that aligns priorities, reduces duplication, and builds collective ownership around marine conservation, restoration, and sustainable development.
By 2025, the Great Blue Wall partnership network had mobilised more than US$80 million in sustainable finance, supported multiple policy frameworks, strengthened regional coalitions, and trained thousands of leaders and practitioners across the region. Through initiatives such as IslandPlas, MARPLASTICCs, the LMMA Alliance, and regional expeditions, partnerships are translating collaboration into practical outcomes that connect science, finance, storytelling, and community action. The pillar demonstrates that long-term impact is strongest when institutions, communities, and investors move together within a shared vision for regenerative seascapes and ocean stewardship.
